Peace Country Photographer — Agriculture, Industry & Rural Alberta Landscapes

Hi, I'm Anna Richard - a photographer, storyteller, and farm wife based in Saddle Hills County, near Spirit River, Alberta — right in the heart of the Peace Country.

My camera lives where I live: between grain bins and gravel roads, oil lease sites and canola fields, kids' muddy boots and the kind of prairie sunset that stops you mid-chore. My husband Mike runs a grain farm, and between seeding, harvest, and everything in between, I'm usually somewhere nearby with a camera — chasing the light, the machinery, or our two kids, Max and Sophie, before they grow up too fast.

I didn't grow up on the prairies. I was born in Nikopol, Ukraine, and moved here as an adult — so I see this land a little differently than someone who's never known anything else. I notice things locals sometimes stop seeing: the scale of a combine against an open sky, the particular gold of a canola field in July, the quiet dignity of a pump jack working alone at dusk. That outsider's eye, paired with an insider's life, is what shapes my work.

What I Photograph

I specialize in rural and industrial photography across Northern Alberta's Peace Region — work that lives at the intersection of three things most photographers treat as separate:

Agriculture photography — harvest, seeding, cattle, grain bins, and the everyday rhythm of farm life around Spirit River and Saddle Hills

CountyOil & gas / industrial photography — rigs, lease sites, pipelines, and the working landscapes that power rural

AlbertaPrairie gems and landscapes — big sky sunsets, canola and wheat fields, backroads, and the wide-open geography that makes this part of the world unmistakable

Why This Work Matters to Me

Agriculture and industry don't get photographed the way they deserve. They get treated as backdrops, not subjects. I want to change that — to show the technical precision of a combine header at work, the raw color of a September sunset behind a gas flare, the quiet pride of a family farm passed through generations, the way my own family's is.

This isn't stock photography. It's documentation of a real, working, beautiful part of Alberta — Spirit River, Saddle Hills County, and the greater Peace Country — told by someone who wakes up in it every day.

Let's Work Together

Whether you need agricultural photography for your farm operation, industrial photography for an oil & gas company, or images of local gems and hidden attractions around our counties, I'd love to hear from you.
